Bench Stock — What to Keep on the Shelf for Silverado Transmission Work

By Dave at Gearbox Insider

If you're seeing more than two or three Silverados a month, there are parts you should never be without. Waiting on a sun shell or an accumulator kit while a truck sits on your lift is a scheduling and cash-flow problem you can solve with about $300 in strategic inventory. — Sun shell (hardened aftermarket, not OEM): The OEM shell cracks at the spline. Keep one on the shelf. A quality hardened shell from Alto or Raybestos runs $45–$65 and fits all 4L60E applications. — 3-4 accumulator piston and spring kit: Every high-mileage 4L60E needs this. $12–$18. Stock three. — Pressure regulator valve kit (Sonnax): The bore fix for low line pressure. Keep one. — Master overhaul kit with steels: A full frictions-and-steels kit from Raybestos or Alto. When the pan comes off dirty, you want to be able to quote a same-week turnaround. — 1-2 and 3-4 servo seals: These dry out and crack. Two sets minimum.
