If you're servicing 6L80 transmissions with standard Dexron VI and calling it a day, I need to stop you right there. I've seen this cost shops money and customers their transmissions, and it's a mistake that's completely avoidable once you understand what GM actually changed and why. GM introduced Dexron HP specifically for the 6L80 and 6L90 applications in 2013 and later model years. The "HP" stands for High Performance, and it's not marketing language. The 6L80 runs a different clutch pack friction material and a torque converter lockup strategy that creates significantly more shear stress on the fluid than the older 4L60E or 4L80E platforms ever did. Dexron VI doesn't have the viscosity index or the friction modifier package to handle that sustained shear load. You'll keep it alive short term, but you're accelerating wear on the TCC and the clutch packs every time you use the wrong fluid.
