If GM vehicles are a significant part of your shop's work, running out of common consumables mid-job is a profit killer. Every time a tech has to stop a job and wait for a parts run, you lose flat-rate time and you extend the vehicle's bay time. Building a smart bench stock for GM transmission work isn't about stocking everything — it's about stocking the things that come up on nearly every job and cost you the most when they're missing. For GM fluid work specifically, you want at minimum two cases of Dexron VI and at least six quarts of Dexron HP on the shelf at all times. The Dexron VI carries you through the 4L60E, 4L80E, 4T65E, early 6L80, and the entire older FWD GM fleet. The Dexron HP covers 2014+ 6L80 and 6L90 applications. Keep them in separate, clearly labeled areas of your fluid storage. The difference matters and your techs need to grab the right jug without thinking about it.
