Spring is the single best time to service a Ford transmission — and most people skip it. Here's why it matters: winter operating conditions are brutal on automatic transmission fluid. Cold starts mean the fluid stays thick longer before reaching operating temp, putting extra load on the pump and valve body. Short trips mean the fluid never fully de-gasses moisture. And stop-and-go traffic in cold weather keeps the TCC cycling on and off more than highway driving does, which accelerates friction material wear in the converter and clutch packs.
