The $18 vacuum that 248,000 people bought (and actually love)

By Dave at Gearbox Insider

A Dyson cordless runs about $400. It's great. I'm not going to tell you it isn't. But I'm also not going to pretend that most people need a $400 vacuum for their car when there's an $18 option sitting on Amazon with a quarter million five-star reviews. The ThisWorx car vacuum has been around long enough to rack up more real-world feedback than most products in any category. It plugs into your 12V outlet, hits 106W of suction, comes with three attachments, and weighs under two pounds. People use it on pet hair, crumbs, gravel, sand — the stuff that collects in floor mats and seat crevices over a winter.

BLACK+DECKER Dustbuster Handheld Vacuum

~$39.99

Step up from the ThisWorx if you want cordless convenience. The Dustbuster is a proven name and the handheld form factor makes it easy to store in your trunk. Good suction for quick cleanups, empties cleanly, and holds a charge well. Better than the ThisWorx for pet hair specifically. Worth the extra $20 if you're in and out of your car with kids or animals.

Bissell Pet Hair Eraser Handheld Vacuum

~$34.99

If you've got a dog or cat that rides with you, standard vacuums don't cut it. Bissell built this specifically for pet hair — the rubber nozzle creates static that pulls hair out of upholstery fibers instead of just skimming the surface. It's the one I'd recommend to anyone dealing with dog hair embedded in cloth seats. Bissell also donates to pet shelters with every sale, which is a nice bonus.
