What it does

Main line pressure regulator for the 8L90. Critical wear item — replace at every rebuild.

Fitment

2014-present GM Silverado 1500, Sierra 1500, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Escalade with 8L90 eight-speed.

Common failure symptoms

P0796, P0962, harsh shifts, line-pressure fault, transmission slipping at highway speed under load

Electrical / install specs

Variable bleed solenoid.
PWM controlled by TCM.
Resistance 3-5 ohms.

Run a resistance check before condemning. Bad wiring, corroded harness pins, or a failing PCM driver can cause identical symptoms.

Replacement procedure

  1. Drop pan and filter
  2. Remove valve body
  3. EPC solenoid sits at front of valve body
  4. Disconnect harness pin
  5. Remove retaining bracket
  6. Lubricate O-rings with Dexron HP
  7. Torque to 89 in-lbs
  8. 8L90 uses Dexron HP — NOT Dexron VI. Wrong fluid causes shudder.
