10 Ton Hydraulic Gear Puller Set, 2 and 3 Jaw, 4-8 in

This is a 10 ton hydraulic gear and bearing puller set built around a 1-1/2 inch diameter self-contained ram. The ram has its own pump built into the body, so there is no separate hand pump, no hose to drag around the bench, and nothing to bleed before you start. You set the jaws, seat the ram center on the shaft, and work the handle until the part breaks loose.

The kit converts between a 2-jaw and a 3-jaw setup and ships with three sets of legs in 4 inch, 6 inch and 8 inch lengths, so the same ram covers a small passenger car pulley and a truck or farm equipment hub. Two jaws is what you want when a gear or pulley only gives you clearance on opposite sides. Three jaws is what you want on anything round that has to come off square, like a bearing race on a shaft or a hub that will cock and gall if it is pulled unevenly.

On a transmission bench this is the tool for the jobs a slide hammer will not do without damage: pulling a pressed-on output shaft bearing, breaking loose a rusted pinion yoke or flange, pressing a governor drive gear or speedo drive off a tailshaft, and pulling a stubborn harmonic balancer or crank pulley when the trans is out. Hydraulic force is steady and controllable, which matters when the part on the other end is a case, a shaft you plan to reuse, or a bearing you would rather not shatter. The legs and body are hardened SCM415 alloy steel, and the whole set stores in the blow-molded case so the jaws do not end up scattered through a toolbox drawer.
