4L60E/4L65E Rear Planet Set with Ring & Sun Gear

This is the rear (reaction) planetary assembly for the GM 700R4/4L60E family, sold as a complete unit: the pinion carrier, the internal ring gear, and the reaction sun gear together. The 4L60E is the electronically controlled successor to the 700R4 and shares this rear planet, so the same set covers 700R4, 4L60E, 4L65E and 4L70E builds.

The rear planet is what takes the beating in first gear and during heavy reverse loads. When a unit comes in with chipped or spalled pinion teeth, blued or notched pinion shafts, or excessive carrier endplay, you replace the whole reaction planet rather than trying to save worn gears. Metal in the pan and a whine that changes with load are the usual tells.

On the bench it drops into the case behind the sun shell and reaction carrier during reassembly, indexing to the output shaft and the internal ring gear. Set your carrier endplay and check pinion rotation before the center support and rear internal gear go back in.

Ships as a new assembly. Reuse or replace your thrust washers and bearings per your teardown; inspect the mating sun shell (the common "Beast" failure point) while you are in there.
