Rebuilds the 3-4 clutch pack in GM 700R4, 4L60 and 4L60E transmissions: 9 Alto tan frictions, 10 steels, a pressure plate and snap ring.
The 3-4 clutch pack is the most common failure point in the GM 700R4 and 4L60/4L60E family. When third and fourth gear start to slip, flare on the 2-3 shift, or the transmission bangs going into overdrive, the 3-4 frictions are almost always burnt. This kit rebuilds that clutch pack completely so you are not reusing glazed plates.
What is in the box (Whatever It Takes power pack, Alto reference): nine .062 in tan friction plates, eight .059 in steels, two .077 in selective steels, one .125 in pressure plate, and one .0595 in snap ring. The tan frictions run cooler and hold up better than the factory Borg Warner plates, which is why builders use them on daily drivers and mild tow rigs.
On the bench the pack drops into the input housing. Use the selective .077 in steels and the .0595 in snap ring to set 3-4 clutch clearance; Alto's spec is roughly .025 in to .050 in depending on how firm you want the apply. Set clearance before final assembly and air-check the drum to confirm the pack applies and releases clean.
Fits GM 700R4, 4L60 and 4L60E (WIT part number 057757B). This is the 3-4 (third and fourth gear) pack only; it does not include the intermediate, forward, or overrun clutches.
