Overhaul kit for the Ford 4R44E, 4R55E and 5R55E automatic in 1997-up Ranger, Explorer and Mazda B-series trucks: frictions, band, filter and seals.
A full overhaul kit for the Ford 4R44E, 4R55E and 5R55E automatic transmissions, the electronically controlled A4LD-family units used from 1997 up. It fits the Ranger (1997-2009, 2.3L, 2.5L, 3.0L and 4.0L), Explorer (1997-2001, 5.0L), Explorer Sport and Sport Trac (2001-2004, 4.0L), 1997 Aerostar, and the Mazda B2300, B2500, B3000 and B4000 pickups that share the same case.
The kit carries what you replace on a proper rebuild, not just a reseal: a Raybestos high-energy HT clutch module, six forward-clutch frictions, five C-3 direct-clutch frictions, two overdrive steels, the intermediate and overdrive flex band, the pump bushing, a 2WD filter, and a Precision overhaul gasket and seal set with all the rubber and paper you need to close the case back up. Steels that pass inspection get reused, which is normal practice on these units.
On the bench this is the kit you open after the unit comes in for slipping, a soft or missing overdrive, a burnt band, or delayed engagement. Air-check the drums, replace the frictions and band, soak the new frictions in ATF before assembly, set your clearances, and reseal with the supplied gaskets. Pair it with a valve body shift kit if the original failure was heat-related. It is built for a service rebuild on a healthy core, not for repairing a cracked case or a spun bushing bore.
