4T40E / 4T45E Transmission Master Rebuild Kit

This is a complete master rebuild kit for the GM 4T40E and 4T45E four-speed automatic transaxle, the transverse unit GM ran behind 2.0L through 3.9L engines from the mid-1990s up. It carries what the teardown needs in one box: the friction clutch pack, the matching steel plates, the rubber and Teflon sealing rings, the metal-clad seals, the paper and rubberized gaskets, the pan gasket, and the O-rings for the pump and valve body.

Fitment covers a wide GM front-drive spread - 2003-2005 Chevy Cavalier 2.2L, 2005-2010 Cobalt 2.0/2.2L, 2007-2010 HHR, 2003-2010 Malibu 2.2/3.1/3.5/3.9L, 2003-2005 Pontiac Grand Am and Sunfire, 2005-2010 G6, 2007-2009 G5, 2004-2005 Buick LeSabre 3.8L, 2005 Century 3.1L, 2003-2004 Oldsmobile Alero, 2007-2008 Saturn Aura 3.5L, 2005-2007 Ion 2.0L, 2003-2005 L300 3.0L, and 2005-2009 Vue 2.2/3.5L. It replaces the OE 4T40E and 4T45E soft parts and clutches.

On the bench you soak the new frictions in ATF, reload each clutch pack to its spec clearance, cut fresh sealing rings onto the drums and pump hub, and lay the new gaskets and filter seal as the case goes back together. This is the kit that answers the failures these units are known for - slip and flare on the 1-2 and 2-3 shifts, burnt fluid from cooked clutches, and a car that revs but will not pull once the frictions glaze over.
