4T80E Transmission Master Rebuild Kit, Cadillac Northstar

The 4T80E is the heavy-duty transverse four-speed GM built for the Northstar V8, and it is a different unit from the lighter 4T65E it gets confused with. This is the master (overhaul) kit you open when you tear one down to chase slipping, harsh or delayed engagement, or burnt fluid on a high-mile Cadillac. It fits the 4.6L Northstar cars - Cadillac DeVille, Seville, Eldorado, and DTS, Buick Lucerne, and Pontiac Bonneville - plus the 4.0L Oldsmobile Aurora, covering roughly 1994 through 2011.

In the box is a Raybestos friction clutch pack, a complete steel plate module, a Precision overhaul gasket kit, and the full rubber seal and O-ring set - every soft part and every clutch that wears out in a rebuild. On the bench this is what goes back in after you clean and inspect the drums, pistons, and pump: strip the unit, replace every friction and steel, reseal the pistons and accumulators, and lay in fresh gaskets before the case halves and valve body go back together.

Soak the new frictions in ATF before assembly and set your clutch clearances as you stack each pack so the unit shifts clean and holds. Note this is a soft-parts master kit: it does not include hard parts, the pump, drums, or a torque converter, so reuse or replace those separately based on your teardown.
