Ford 5R110W TorqShift Master Rebuild Kit 2003-2004

The 5R110W TorqShift is the five-speed heavy-duty automatic Ford introduced in 2003 behind the 6.0L Power Stroke diesel and the 6.8L V10 in F-250 through F-550 Super Duty trucks and the Excursion. This master kit is cut specifically for the 2003-2004 model-year units, which use their own friction and steel stack that later 2005-up cases do not share.

Inside the box you get the full soft-part package the rebuild consumes: the forward, intermediate, direct, low/reverse and overdrive brake friction clutches (all .078 plates), the matching steel module, plus the pan and pump gaskets, shaft seals, and the complete O-ring and sealing-ring assortment. Once the transmission is out and split on the bench, tear the drums down, wash and measure the steels and reuse them if they are flat and clean, then reload every clutch pack with new frictions and set your clearances with an air check before the drums go back together.

These units come apart for predictable reasons. The 6.0L trucks tow heavy and run hot, and that heat cooks the fluid and burns the direct and overdrive clutches, which shows up as a slipping or harsh 2-3, a soft overdrive, or a converter that will not lock. Ford revised the valve body and converter for 2005, so an 05-up friction set will not clear correctly in an early case, which is exactly why this kit is kept to the 2003-2004 build.
