Reseals a Ford 5R55W or 5R55S without buying frictions -- pan and pump gaskets, drum and servo seals, and the O-ring set for 2002-2010 units.
This is the gasket and seal side of a 5R55W or 5R55S overhaul: pan gasket, pump gasket and pump body seals, front pump seal, the rubber-coated valve body separator plate gaskets, drum and piston lip seals, servo cover O-rings, and the small O-ring assortment for the solenoid pack and case connector. It does not include frictions, steels, or a filter -- this is the kit you buy when the unit is coming apart for a leak or a soft-part refresh and the clutch pack still measures good.
Fitment is the Ford five-speed rear-wheel-drive family: 5R55W and 5R55S in Explorer and Mountaineer 2002-2010, Explorer Sport Trac, Mustang V6 2005-2010, Lincoln Aviator 2003-2005, and Ranger with the 4.0L. The W and S share the case and most of the soft parts; the S is the SelectShift version with the extra solenoid, and the O-ring set here covers both solenoid pack styles.
The failures this kit addresses are the ones that show up as a puddle or a slow bleed-down. The pump body O-rings and front seal are the usual source of a leak at the bellhousing. The servo cover O-rings harden and let the 2-3 or overdrive servo lose apply pressure, which reads on the road as a flare on the shift and shows up as a delayed engagement after the truck sits. The separator plate gaskets go brittle and cross-leak between circuits, which is what puts a 5R55W into limp with no hard part damage. Pulling the valve body and resealing with fresh gaskets fixes those without opening the drums.
Do the servo covers and the solenoid pack O-rings while the pan is off even if you only came in for the pan gasket -- the covers are two bolts each and the pack is the same access. Torque the pan to 8-10 ft-lb in a criss-cross and let the new gasket sit before refilling with Mercon V.
