About this product

This is a rebuilt torque converter, part number CR1320, for the Chrysler 62TE six-speed transverse automatic used in 2011-and-up Dodge Grand Caravan and Chrysler Town and Country minivans. It is built with new clutch lining, new bearings and a new sprag, so the lockup clutch and the stator one-way clutch are both fresh rather than reused out of the core.

The 62TE runs its converter clutch in a partial-apply (EMCC) strategy for a lot of the drive cycle, which means the lining sees slip and heat almost constantly. When that lining wears, the symptom shows up as a shudder or a low-speed vibration around 40 to 50 mph that feels like driving over rumble strips, and the scan tool shows TCC slip creeping up beyond spec. A worn stator sprag is the other common failure: it lets the stator freewheel both directions, which kills stall and low-end pull and heats the fluid badly. Either one is a converter replacement, not a fluid service.

Install this whenever the 62TE is out for a rebuild or a valve body job. The old converter holds a large share of the total fluid and traps clutch debris and metal from whatever failed upstream, and that debris comes straight back through the cooler circuit and into the fresh build if you reuse it. Pre-fill the new converter with ATF+4 before installing, then set it onto the pump and rotate it until it drops through each engagement step and the hub is fully home. Measure from the converter mounting pad to the bell housing face and compare it to your old setup before you snug the transmission to the engine; if the converter is standing proud, the bolts will pull the pump apart.

Flush or replace the cooler and lines at the same time. A converter is only as clean as the circuit feeding it, and leftover debris in the cooler is the fastest way to take out a fresh unit. Note that this item ships requiring a signature on delivery.
