700R4 4L60 Master Rebuild Kit, Raybestos Clutches 1987-Up

The 700R4 is the four-speed overdrive that lived behind small blocks in C/K trucks, Blazers, Suburbans, Camaros, Firebirds, Corvettes and Caprices from the mid-80s on, and it earns a rebuild the moment third and fourth start slipping or the thing flares on the 3-4 shift. That 3-4 clutch pack is the part that cooks first, so a proper overhaul means new frictions and steels front to back, not a filter and a prayer. This is the WIT master kit (part W74006B) for the 1987-up 700R4 / 4L60, the later build with the improved 3-4 clutch and updated soft parts.

The box carries Raybestos Powertrain friction modules and matching steel clutch modules for every pack, plus the full soft-parts set: pan and pump gaskets, metal-clad lip seals, all the o-rings, the sealing rings, and the rubber piston and accumulator seals. Those are the parts that make or break a rebuild - the frictions give you holding capacity and the seals give you the line pressure to apply them - so having them come from one matched kit beats mixing three open boxes off the shelf.

On the bench you strip the unit to the case, wash everything, then reassemble pack by pack: soak the new Raybestos frictions in ATF before they go in, air-check each clutch and the servo as you build, and set your clutch clearances with the selective snap rings as you stack. This kit does not include the band, bushings, or hard parts, so inspect the 2-4 band, the input drum, and the sun shell (the weak spot on these) while you are in there and order those separately if they are worn.
