722.9 7G-Tronic Valve Body, Mercedes A2302700160

This is a replacement valve body for the Mercedes 722.9 (NAG2) seven-speed automatic, the electro-hydraulic control unit that routes line pressure to the clutch packs and carries the shift solenoids and conductor plate. It fits 2005-2018 Mercedes-Benz C, E, S, CLS, SLK, ML, GL and G-Class models running 3.0L to 6.2L V6 and V8 engines behind the 722.9 gearbox. Cross-reference part numbers are A2302700160, 2202771301 and R2202771301 (R 220 277 13 01).

A tired 722.9 valve body shows up as delayed or slamming engagement into Drive and Reverse, flare or harsh shifts, a stored gear-ratio or solenoid fault, or a drop into limp/fail-safe. Worn bores and a cracked or worn conductor plate lose the pressure control the transmission needs, and no amount of fluid service brings back a bore that has gone oval. Swapping the valve body restores clean solenoid control instead of chasing the problem with additives.

On the bench, drop the pan, pull the filter, unplug the internal harness and 13-pin connector, and unbolt the valve body in the factory sequence so the conductor plate and shift solenoids come out as a unit. Torque the bolts to spec on reassembly and set the fluid level warm with the correct MB 236.14 / 236.15 ATF. Read the warning before you order: the control module (VGS) that mounts to this unit is version-specific (VGS1, VGS2, VGS3) and VIN-coded on many cars, so it commonly needs SCN online coding on Xentry, or you transfer your own already-coded module onto the new valve body.
