Bolts to the PTO cover opening on Allison 1000/2000 LCT units and preloads the main shaft during assembly so the P3 sun gear thrust bearing cannot drop out.
This is the replacement for Allison special tool T-44587AC, the main shaft support used during rebuild of the 1000, 2000 and 2400 series LCT automatics found behind the Duramax and in medium-duty chassis from 2000 up. It mounts at the PTO opening on the case and is held by two bolts, then bears against the main shaft to keep it preloaded while you finish the build.
The reason it exists: once the rear half is stacked and the extension housing is torqued down, the unit has to be rolled back over with the bellhousing flange up. With nothing holding the main shaft, it walks in the case during that roll, and the P3 sun gear thrust bearing routinely slips out of position. Best case you tear back down to reset it. Worst case nobody catches it, the bearing gets pinched on the test run and takes hard parts with it.
Install it before you flip the transmission, leave it in until the front half is together, then pull it and reinstall the PTO cover. Made in the USA from alloy steel with a textured powder coat, so it lives on the bench and does not surface-rust between jobs.
