Rebuilds the GM aluminum Powerglide (1962-1973) with Alto friction and steel clutch plates plus a Transtec gasket, seal, and O-ring set for a sealed reassembly.
This is the soft-parts and clutch package for a full overhaul of the GM aluminum Powerglide, the two-speed automatic that ran behind Chevy and Pontiac engines from 1962 through 1973 and still fills the transmission tunnel of half the drag cars at any bracket race. When the low and high clutches are slipping, the unit is leaking down the tailshaft, or you are freshening a core off the shelf, this kit gets it back together with new friction material and fresh rubber instead of tired used parts.
The kit is built around Alto Products friction clutches and steel clutch plates and a Transtec gasket set, so the frictions grab and the case, pump, and pan surfaces seal on reassembly. Contents cover the friction clutches, steel clutches, the full gasket set, O-rings, metal-clad lip seals, and the sealing rings that live on the drums and pump. It is manufacturer part number 103006, packaged by Transparts Warehouse.
On the bench you lay the parts out against an exploded view, soak the new frictions in ATF before you stack them, and replace every seal and O-ring as you reassemble the clutch drums, pump, and case. Because this is a two-speed with a simple clutch pack, it is one of the friendlier automatics to rebuild at home, but it still pays to check clutch clearance and endplay as you go. Confirm you have the aluminum Powerglide, not the earlier cast-iron case, before ordering, since the two do not share parts.
