ATSG technical manual for the GM 6L80E and 6L90E covering teardown, valve body ID, solenoid and clutch clearance specs, and code charts so you rebuild it right.
The 6L80E is GM's 6-speed rear-wheel-drive automatic that showed up in 2006 behind the Silverado and Sierra 1500, Tahoe, Yukon, Suburban, Escalade, Camaro, Corvette, Express and Savana vans and the Hummer H2. The 6L90E is the longer, heavy-duty version of the same design used behind the 2500/3500 trucks and the high-torque applications. Both units fail in familiar ways: worn valve body bores that kill line and TCC regulation, a shuddering converter clutch, burnt 1-2-3-4 and 3-5-reverse clutches, and stuck shift solenoids that set pressure-control and ratio codes. Tearing one down without the specs in front of you is how a rebuild turns into a comeback.
ATSG (Automatic Transmission Service Group) writes these books with rebuilders who work on these transmissions every day. Inside you get the complete disassembly and reassembly sequence, exploded views of the drum, clutch and planetary assemblies, clutch pack clearance and selective specs, valve body and check-ball layout, solenoid resistance and line pressure values, the connector pinouts, and the diagnostic trouble code charts for the electronic controls. It walks the real problems techs run into on these units and points you at the cause instead of guessing.
Keep this one open on the bench whether it is your first 6L80E or your fiftieth. It covers the electronically controlled 6L80E and 6L90E from the 2006 introduction forward. Standard shop-manual format, ships from the USA. Pair it with a master overhaul kit, a valve body upgrade kit and the correct solenoids and you have what you need to bring the unit back correctly.
