



Pulls press-fit dowel pins from engine blocks, cylinder heads, and transmission cases straight out without a slide hammer, using SAE and metric collets.
Solid alignment dowels are the thing that stops a job cold. On a transmission you hit them where the bellhousing meets the block and where the case halves and pump locate, and on an engine they sit in the deck, the mains, and the flywheel flange. Grab one with vise grips and you chew it up; drive on it and you crack the casting around it. This Cal-Van 95400 pulls the pin straight out along its own axis so the bore and the surrounding aluminum come through clean.
It works by collet, not by hammer. You slip the correct-size collet over the exposed dowel, tighten the sleeve so the collet clamps the pin, then run the outer sleeve and nut down against the casting to jack the dowel out. There is no slide hammer flailing around, which is what wrecks a delicate engine deck or gasket surface, and there is far less chance of a mashed hand. Turn it with a hand ratchet when you want to feel the pin break loose, or an air ratchet when you have a stack of them to do. Plan on roughly 16 inches of clearance above the pin to assemble the tool.
The master set covers the sizes you actually run into: metric 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, and 12 mm collets plus SAE 3/16, 1/4, 5/16, 3/8, and 1/2 inch. Lube the threads before every pull and scuff a polished dowel with a bit of emery so the collet bites, and it will walk out pins that pliers and heat will not touch. It is the kind of specialty tool you buy once and reach for every time a case or a head has to come apart around a stuck dowel.
