CD4E / LA4AEL Master Rebuild Kit, Ford & Mazda 94-08

Everything needed to overhaul the CD4E automatic transaxle in one box. This is Ford's and Mazda's 4-speed front-wheel-drive unit (Mazda calls it the LA4AEL), used in the Contour and Mystique, Escort, Probe, Mercury Cougar, Mazda 626 and MX-6, and the 3.0L Tribute and Mariner from 1994 through 2008. Covers the 2.0L, 2.5L and 3.0L applications.

The kit carries the full clutch pack, frictions and steels for the forward, direct and 3-4 drums, plus the reverse band and the complete gasket and rubber set: pan gasket, case and pump gaskets, lip seals, sealing rings and the O-ring assortment. On the bench you soak the new frictions, air-check each drum as it goes together, set clutch clearance with the supplied steels, and reseal the pump and case so the unit holds line pressure on the first fill.

The CD4E is known for burning the 3-4 and forward clutches and losing drive as the frictions glaze and the seals harden, the classic slip on the 3-4 shift, delayed engagement, or a converter that will not lock. A master kit replaces every wear item at once so you fix the cause instead of chasing one clutch at a time.
