Furnace-brazed aluminum plate-and-fin auxiliary transmission cooler with 1/2 inch NPT ports; drops ATF temps on trucks that tow or run in stop-and-go heat.
Heat is what kills automatic transmissions. ATF that runs hot burns the friction material off the clutches, cooks the fluid, and turns a unit that should last 200,000 miles into a rebuild. This Derale 13614 is a plate-and-fin auxiliary cooler that plumbs into your existing transmission cooler line and pulls that heat back out before it does the damage. It is built for medium to light-heavy duty use, occasional towing, and OE-style towing packages.
The core is furnace-brazed aluminum, not a crimped-together tube-and-fin, so the internal joints are one continuous brazed structure that holds up to pressure and vibration without weeping at the seams. Plate-and-fin construction moves more heat per square inch than an economy tube cooler of the same face size, which is why this is the style shops reach for when a truck is running hot on the dipstick. The whole unit is compact at roughly 10.13 inches wide by 10.63 inches tall and only 1.25 inches thick, so it fits in front of the A/C condenser or radiator on most vehicles.
Installation is inline on the return line from the radiator's internal cooler back to the transmission: cut the rubber cooler hose, route it through the new cooler using the supplied fittings and hose, and mount the cooler to the core support with the included hardware. It uses 1/2 inch NPT ports (Derale part 13614). Mount it where it gets clean airflow, keep the lines away from the exhaust and moving parts, and check for leaks before the first drive. If you tow, haul, or sit in traffic in the heat, adding this cooler is one of the cheapest things you can do to keep the transmission alive. Backed by a limited one-year warranty. Ships from the USA.
