Ford C6 Transmission Master Rebuild Kit, Frictions & Steels

This is a master rebuild kit for the Ford C6 three-speed automatic, covering roughly 1968 and up. The C6 sat behind FE, 385-series, and small-block Ford engines in F-series trucks, Broncos, and full-size cars for decades, and it is still one of the most commonly rebuilt Ford automatics because the cores are everywhere and the unit responds well to a clean rebuild. A master kit is the difference between a reseal and an actual overhaul: it brings the soft parts plus the clutch frictions and steels so you replace the wear items, not just the leaks.

The kit includes the friction plates for the forward, direct, and reverse clutch packs, the matching steel plates, a C6 overhaul gasket set, and the full complement of seals, O-rings, and sealing rings that go through the pump, drums, and case. The C6 shares several clutch components with the later E4OD and 4R100, so the friction and steel plates in this set carry those fitment lines as well. Bands, the torque converter, bushings, and thrust washers are not part of a soft-parts master kit and are ordered separately if the teardown shows they are worn.

Use it during a full bench rebuild after the transmission is disassembled and cleaned. Soak the new frictions in ATF before assembly, set clutch clearances with the appropriate steels and a selective as needed, and replace every seal and sealing ring as you reassemble each drum and the pump. Doing the frictions and steels together while the unit is apart is what restores holding capacity and shift feel rather than just stopping a leak.
