Heat is the number one thing that kills an automatic. Once the fluid climbs much past 200 degrees the friction material and seals start to give up, and towing, hills, and stop-and-go traffic all drive temperature up in a hurry. The Four Seasons 53001 is an auxiliary cooler you add ahead of the radiator or A/C condenser to pull that heat back out of the fluid before it cooks the clutches and turns the ATF dark.

This is the Ultra-Cool plate-and-fin core, measuring 12.5 by 7.5 by 0.75 inches, so it fits into a tight nose where a bigger stacked-plate unit will not. It plumbs inline on the transmission cooler return line and works just as well as an add-on power steering cooler. It has become a popular fix on CVT-equipped cars like the Nissan Altima, Rogue, and Murano, which run undersized factory coolers and are very sensitive to fluid temperature, but the universal design fits any rig where you want lower trans temps and longer fluid life.

Four Seasons is the SMP Temperature Control brand, so the aluminum core is tested and pressure-checked before it ships. The kit includes the cooler, hose, foam isolation pads, and nylon mounting straps to secure it to the radiator or condenser. Fittings are 3/8 inch push-on barbs. On some vehicles you may want an extra foot of cooler hose and a vehicle-specific line adapter, and you should top off the fluid with the engine running after install since the cooler and hoses hold roughly a half quart.
