Pulls flange-type rear axles, front hubs, oil seals and press-fit parts using a 5-1/2 lb slide hammer with 2-jaw and 3-jaw yokes.
This is the slide hammer set that comes off the shelf when a flange-type rear axle will not walk out of the housing, or a front hub has rusted into the knuckle. The core of the kit is a 5-1/2 lb slide hammer (GEARWRENCH part 3591D) with a 5/8-18 threaded nose, which is the standard thread nearly every aftermarket puller attachment is cut for. That means the hammer keeps working long after this kit, with axle bearing pullers, blind-hole collets and CV attachments you already own.
The set ships with a 2-way yoke and a 3-way yoke (41705), a leg package and screws, a center bolt and cone (41706), a three-piece adapter set (41707), and both a shallow flange (230071D) and a deep flange (230075D). The legs reverse in the yokes, so each yoke configures for internal pulling out of a bore or external pulling over the outside of a hub, gear or bearing race. That is where the ten configurations come from.
On the bench and under the car it earns its keep on semi-float rear axles in GM 10-bolt and Ford 8.8 housings, where the flange bolts to the shallow flange plate and the hammer drives the axle and its retainer out in a dozen strokes. Same story on rusted front wheel bearing and hub assemblies on trucks and SUVs, on stuck CV axles, and on pulling pinion and pilot bearings once the right adapter is threaded on the nose. Assembly is quick, but note the plastic case hinges are the weak point in this kit; several buyers report cracking them, so treat the box gently and it will keep everything sorted.
Total weight is 7.8 lb, the hammer body measures 10.2 inches, and the components are alloy steel. GEARWRENCH covers the hand-tool components under a lifetime warranty.
