Overhauls a GM 200-4R (2004R) overdrive automatic with the gaskets, seals, sealing rings, filter and friction clutch plates for a 1981-1990 rebuild.
The GM 200-4R (TH200-4R, often written 2004R) is the metric overdrive automatic that ran behind rear-wheel-drive GM cars from 1981 through 1990 - Buick Regal and Grand National, Monte Carlo SS, Cutlass, Caprice and Cadillac among them. This is a master overhaul (banner) kit for that transmission, and it carries the friction clutch plates, so it is what you order when you have the case apart on the bench and you are putting the clutch packs back together with fresh soft parts.
The kit covers the wear items that fail on a high-mileage 200-4R: the pan gasket and all the case and pump gaskets, the rubber and lip seals, the metal-clad and Teflon sealing rings that ride on the drums and pump, the filter, and the friction clutch plates for the direct, forward and overdrive packs. On the bench you soak the new frictions in ATF before assembly, replace every seal and sealing ring as you stack each drum, and drop in the new filter before the pan goes back on. Doing the whole set at once is what keeps a rebuild from coming back with a burnt clutch or a leak.
This is a soft-parts and frictions kit. It does not include the steel plates, bushings, bands, or hard parts - reuse your good steels or order those separately if they are heat-spotted. Confirm your unit is a 1981-1990 200-4R before ordering; it does not fit the later 4L60 or 4L60E even though they share GM lineage.
