Heat is the number one killer of an automatic transmission. Once fluid temperature climbs past about 200 degrees, its service life starts getting cut in half for every 20 degrees on top of that, and towing, hills, and stop-and-go traffic all drive temps up in a hurry. The Hayden 687 is an auxiliary cooler you mount ahead of the radiator and A/C condenser to pull heat out of the ATF before it cooks the clutches and burns the fluid dark.

This is the medium-duty size in Hayden's Rapid-Cool line, a compact plate-and-fin core measuring 11 by 7.5 by 0.75 inches with a 19mm-thick performance element. The plate-and-fin construction transfers more heat than a basic tube-and-fin unit of the same footprint, and Hayden's patented flow-path core is engineered to raise heat transfer while keeping pressure drop low so it will not starve the transmission of fluid. It is rated for gross vehicle weights up to 20,000 pounds and towing up to 2,500 pounds, which covers most mid-size and full-size cars, half-ton pickups, SUVs, and daily-driven swaps.

The kit includes the cooler, hose, and mounting hardware. Six male flare fittings let you hard-plumb it into the system, and the pre-drilled mounting brackets bolt it in without fabrication. It plumbs inline with your factory cooler lines, or in place of a weak in-radiator cooler, to knock 15 to 25 degrees off transmission temperature under load.
