Filter and pan gasket service kit for the Ford C4 automatic, covering 1970-1986 applications for a fluid-and-filter change or reseal.
This is the filter and pan gasket set for a routine service or leak fix on the Ford C4 three-speed automatic, JEGS part number 60907 (555-60907). It fits 1970 through 1986 C4 units, the transmission Ford ran behind small-block V8s and inline sixes in Mustangs, Falcons, Fairlanes, F-series trucks, Broncos and more.
The kit includes the correct pickup filter (screen) that bolts to the valve body and the oil pan gasket. When you drop the pan to change fluid, replace the filter and gasket together rather than reusing the old ones. A clogged or cracked pickup screen starves the pump and causes slipping and delayed engagement, and a hardened pan gasket is the most common source of a C4 fluid leak.
Bench procedure: drain and drop the pan, unbolt the old filter from the valve body, seat the new filter and torque its bolts, lay the new gasket dry (no RTV needed on a fresh cork/composite gasket), reinstall the pan evenly, then refill with the correct Type F or Mercon fluid for the year. Check level hot, in park, engine idling.
