Finned cast-aluminum replacement pan for GM TH350 and Turbo 350 transmissions; the fins shed heat to run fluid cooler and it ships with a gasket, drain plug, and bolts.
This is a direct-fit cast-aluminum oil pan for the GM Turbo Hydramatic 350 (TH350, TH350C) three-speed automatic, the unit that sat behind small- and big-block Chevrolet, Pontiac, Olds and Buick engines in GM cars and trucks from 1969 through the mid-1980s. It replaces the stamped-steel factory pan with a finned aluminum casting at stock 2-1/4 inch depth, so it holds the stock fluid volume and keeps the same crossmember and driveline clearance. There is no need to add extra quarts or re-set your dipstick.
The two real gains over the steel pan are heat and service access. Aluminum plus the cast cooling fins pull heat out of the fluid, which is what you want on anything that tows, sees stop-and-go, or runs a converter that builds temperature. The pan also has a threaded drain plug, so future fluid changes are a plug and a filter instead of breaking the whole pan loose and wearing the fluid down your arm. The black finned finish also cleans up the bottom of an older transmission.
The pan comes with a cork gasket, the drain plug, and the mounting bolts. Two install notes from the bench: use the supplied Allen-head bolts rather than tall aftermarket studs, since the raised pan rail sits close to the bolt heads, and let the cork gasket seat, then re-torque the bolts in a crisscross pattern after the transmission has run and cooled so it seals leak-free. We recommend dropping in a fresh TH350 filter and gasket at the same time; the filter is sold separately.
