Compresses the low/reverse piston return spring so you can pull the snap ring without dropping the center shaft and clutch pack, on GM, Ford and A727 builds.
This is the spring compressor for the job most rebuilders hate doing by hand: getting the retaining snap ring off the low/reverse piston return spring without the assembly fighting back. It seats against the clutch drum's retaining washer and compresses the long reverse piston return spring far enough to clear the snap ring groove, so you can pull or install the ring without yanking the center shaft and clutch pack out of the case.
It covers a wide spread of automatics: GM units including the 4L60E and 6L80, Ford F-Series transmissions, Toyota Land Cruiser gearboxes, and the Mopar A727 TorqueFlite. The pressure is adjustable, so you can set an even, square load on the retaining washer instead of cocking the spring and nicking the drum or the ring groove.
It is a one-piece steel tool, made in the USA, built to take repeated use in a greasy shop without flexing. On the bench: set the drum, run the tool down until the snap ring groove clears the spring seat, remove or install the ring, then back the pressure off slowly so nothing launches. That controlled release is the reason you reach for a dedicated compressor instead of a pry bar.
