Mag-Hytec 68RFE Deep Transmission Pan Ram 2500/3500 Cummins

This is the Mag-Hytec deep transmission pan for the 68RFE six-speed automatic behind the 6.7L Cummins in 2007.5-up Dodge Ram 2500 and 3500 trucks. It replaces the shallow stamped-steel factory pan with a heavy cast-aluminum unit that holds roughly three extra quarts of ATF+4. More fluid means a bigger heat sink, so the transmission runs cooler and the fluid lives longer under load, which is exactly what you want on a truck that tows or hauls heavy.

The pan is machined from thick aluminum with cooling fins cast into the body, and it carries a drain plug so future fluid changes no longer mean pulling all the bolts and dumping the pan. The plug is magnetic and pulls steel wear material out of the fluid where you can see it at each service. Fit follows the factory bolt pattern and gasket surface, and there is enough clearance built into the casting for the cooler lines and thermal bypass block once it is on the truck.

On install: this is a bolt-on that reuses the factory gasket surface with a reusable fiber gasket (RTV is optional to hold the gasket while you start the bolts). Owners commonly move the cooler-line bracket about half an inch or loosen one bolt to angle the deeper pan into place, then torque the bolts to spec with a dial or beam torque wrench. With both filters changed, expect roughly 12 to 13 quarts of ATF+4 to reach the hot-fill mark. Running a quart low on a 68RFE causes intermittent, harsh shifting, so fill to spec at operating temperature.
