NP435 4-Speed Transmission Bearing Kit 1965-1986

This is USA Standard Gear kit ZMBK127A, the bearing and seal set for the New Process NP435 four-speed manual transmission built from 1965 through 1986. The NP435 is the cast-iron granny-low box found behind small and big block engines in Ford F-100 through F-350 pickups, Dodge D and W series trucks, and GM light trucks of the same era. It is identified by the 10.75 in cast iron main case, the eight-bolt top cover, and the deep 6.68:1 first gear that makes it worth rebuilding instead of replacing.

The kit covers the wear items that put an NP435 on the bench in the first place: input shaft bearing, main shaft and rear bearings, countershaft needle bearings and thrust washers, reverse idler bearing, and the front and rear seals. Bearings are the parts that go first in these boxes, usually announced by a growl in neutral with the clutch out, or a whine that changes pitch with road speed but not with gear selection. Worn countershaft needles also show up as gear rollout under load.

Bench sequence is straightforward on this transmission. Drain, pull the eight-bolt top cover and shift tower, remove the front bearing retainer and rear extension housing, then drop the countershaft with a dummy shaft so the needle rollers stay stacked. Press the old bearings off the main shaft, clean the case, and reassemble with the new needles held in place with heavy assembly grease. Set the main shaft end play before the extension housing goes back on.

Note this is a bearing and seal kit, not a full synchro rebuild. If the synchro rings or shift keys are worn, order those separately and do them at the same time while the case is open.
