Reseals worn valve body bores on ZF 6HP19, 6HP26, 6HP32 and Ford 6R60/6R80 Gen 1 units to cure harsh shifts, slipping and TCC shudder without reaming.
The Sonnax ZF66R60-ZIP Zip Kit is a valve body repair kit for the ZF 6HP family of six-speed automatics and the Ford versions built on the same design. It fits the ZF6HP19, ZF6HP26 and ZF6HP32 used in 2006-up BMW, Audi, Jaguar and Land Rover applications, and the Ford 6R60 and 6R80 (Gen 1 valve body) found in the Explorer, Expedition, F-150, Mustang and Lincoln Navigator. Confirm you have a first-generation valve body before ordering, since ZF revised the casting partway through production.
These units wear at the aluminum valve body bores where the main pressure regulator, converter clutch and clutch apply valves ride. As the bores open up, line pressure and apply pressure bleed past the valves. The complaints that follow are harsh or delayed engagement into drive and reverse, slipping or flare on the 2-3 and higher shifts, torque converter clutch shudder that feels like driving over rumble strips, and in worse cases a drop into limp mode.
The kit restores those circuits with precision-machined replacement valves, springs and seals that go into the existing valve body. It is a press-in-place repair, so no reaming or line boring is needed. You pull the valve body during a rebuild or reseal, swap the worn valve trains for the Sonnax parts with the included tooling, and reinstall. Techs reach for this instead of buying a complete replacement valve body.
Do the check-ball and separator plate inspection at the same time and this clears up the pressure-related complaints on a high-mileage 6HP or 6R80 in one pass.
