Ford 9-Inch Differential Third Member Assembly Stand

This is a steel fixture that clamps a Ford 9-inch center section (the third member, or "pumpkin") and holds it at a comfortable bench height so you can build or rebuild the gear set off the floor. The head rotates a full 360 degrees, so you can spin the housing to paint a gear pattern, read backlash off a dial indicator, and torque the carrier caps from any angle without dragging the assembly around.

The base is pre-drilled to bolt down to a workbench or toolbox top, and it pops off so the fixture mounts straight onto a standard engine stand when bench space is tight. The hole pattern is spaced for the Ford 9-inch housing, so the pumpkin sits square and stays put while you work.

Setting pinion depth and backlash is a back-and-forth job: seat the pinion, swap a shim, recheck the tooth pattern, do it again. A loose center section on the bench wants to roll and fights you the whole time, and a casting this size is awkward to hold square by hand.
