Guides the overrun clutch piston into the input housing on GM 700R4, 4L60, and 4L60E rebuilds so the inner lip seal rolls in clean instead of tearing or cutting.
The SST-1527 is a steel lip seal installer and protector for the overrun clutch inner seal on the GM 700R4, 4L60, and 4L60E. It slips over the input housing hub and gives the lip seal a tapered ramp to ride up as you push the overrun clutch piston into place, so the sealing lip never catches the sharp edge of the housing.
The overrun piston seal is the one that gets rolled or sliced on assembly. Once that lip is nicked the clutch bleeds off apply pressure and you are back into the case chasing a soft overrun or a rattle you could have avoided. Covering the edge lets the seal seat square the first time instead of on the third teardown.
On the bench you lube the seal and the tool, set the protector over the hub, press the piston straight down until it clears the seal, then pull the tool back out. It cross-references to the Atec Trans-Tool T-1527 and Kent-Moore J-29882, so it drops into an existing 700R4 or 4L60E tool set.
Machined from steel with a black oxide finish, it will not crack or split like the plastic protectors that come apart mid-install. Made in the USA. Ships from the USA, handling in 1-2 business days.
