Steel installer sleeve that guides the forward clutch inner lip seal over the input housing hub so the seal lip rolls in without tearing on GM 700R4 and 4L60E.
When you set the forward clutch piston down onto the input housing, the inner lip seal has to slide over the sharp edge of the housing hub. Do it bare-handed and the lip catches, folds under, or nicks, and you don't find out until the unit is together and the forward clutch won't hold in drive. This sleeve slips over the hub first and gives the seal lip a smooth, tapered ramp to expand over, so it seats square every time.
It fits the GM 700-R4, 4L60, and 4L60E forward clutch, the same job across the whole rear-drive GM lineup those units live behind. Wipe the sleeve and hub with assembly gel, drop the sleeve over the hub, push the piston down over it by hand until the seal clears the sharp edge, then lift the sleeve back off. That's the whole operation, and it's the difference between a clean rebuild and pulling the unit back apart.
Machined from steel with a black oxide finish, it won't split or go brittle in solvent the way the throwaway plastic protectors do, so it stays in the toolbox rebuild after rebuild. Equivalent to Kent-Moore J-29883 and Atec Trans-Tool T-1528. Made in the USA.
