Straight-edge gauge bar that spans the pump surface so you can measure intermediate clutch and reverse drum depths to set end play on Ford AOD, AOD-E, and 4R70W builds.
This is the flat straight-edge gauge bar you set across the pump case mounting surface of a Ford AOD, AOD-E, AOD-EW, or 4R70W transmission during rebuild. With the bar bridging the pump bore, you drop a depth micrometer (not included) through the drilled holes to read the distance down to the intermediate clutch pack and to the reverse clutch drum thrust face.
Those two measurements are how you pick the right selective steel for the intermediate clutch clearance and the correct selective thrust washer to nail transmission end play. Guess at those and you get a unit that either drags or has too much shaft float, so this is the tool that keeps the rebuild inside spec instead of by feel.
It replaces Ford special tool T80L-77003-A and global part number 307-072. The bar is a square steel section with precision holes bored for the depth mic. Beyond the AOD family it also covers the 4EAT (G4A-EL), F4EAT (F4A-EL), 4F20E, ATX, ATX Mazda, and the 3.0L SHO MTX III/IV transaxles that share the same measuring method.
