Stage 2 Clutch Kit 1986-2001 Mustang GT LX Cobra 5.0/4.6

This is a Stage 2 complete clutch kit for the Fox-body and SN95 Mustang, the direct replacement when a stock clutch in a 5.0 or 4.6 starts slipping, chattering, or can no longer hold the power after a cam, headers, or a blower. It is a full assembly, not just a disc: pressure plate, clutch disc, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, and an alignment tool all come in one box, so you are not chasing a bearing at the counter halfway through the job.

The disc is a 10.5 inch, 10-spline sprung-hub disc with carbonized friction material, which is what puts it a step above a stock organic clutch. The carbonized facing takes more heat and clamp load before it fades, and the sprung center hub with heat-treated springs soaks up driveline shock so street engagement stays smooth instead of grabby. The single-diaphragm pressure plate is induction hardened with a CNC-machined casting for higher, more consistent clamp load. Rated to hold roughly 50 percent more torque than a stock unit while still being daily drivable.

Fitment: 1986-1995 Mustang GT and LX 5.0L (302 OHV), 1996 through January-2001 Mustang GT 4.6L SOHC (281), 1993-1995 Cobra SVT 5.0L, and 1996-1998 Cobra SVT 4.6L DOHC. The 4.6 SOHC GT fits cars built up to a January 2001 manufacture date, so check the build tag on an early 2001 car before ordering. This kit is sized for the T5 and T45 manual boxes behind these engines.

Bench notes: always replace the pilot and throwout bearing while the transmission is out, machine or replace the flywheel if it is heat-checked or scored, and use the supplied alignment tool to center the disc before you torque the pressure plate down in a cross pattern. Bed the clutch in with easy stop-and-go driving for the first few hundred miles before you lean on it.
