The Ford E4OD and its later 4R100 sibling are heavy transmissions asked to do heavy work behind big gas V8s and the 7.3L Power Stroke diesel, and the factory valve body calibration is where they show their age. Converter shudder, mushy or slipping shifts, stacked 2-3 shifts, no reverse, and blown front seals are all pressure and timing problems that live in the valve body and pump.
