TF-80SC AF40 Transmission Master Rebuild Kit, Mazda Volvo Ford

This is a master overhaul kit for the Aisin AW TF-80SC six-speed automatic, the transaxle also badged AF40 and fitted across a wide run of European front-drive and all-wheel-drive cars from 2005 up. It carries the full set of soft parts and friction plates needed to put a torn-down unit back together, so a rebuilder is not chasing individual seals and clutches from three different suppliers.

Fitment covers the common TF-80SC applications: Volvo S40, V50, S60, S80, V70, XC70 and XC90; Mazda6 and CX-9; and Ford Mondeo, S-Max and Galaxy, along with the Opel, Saab, Fiat and Land Rover cars that share this Aisin unit. The kit includes the clutch friction plates and steels, the band, the paper and rubber gaskets, the metal-clad and lip seals, the sealing rings, and the small check-ball and servo hardware that gets replaced on a full rebuild. It is a bench job: the transmission has to come out, be split and cleaned, and each clutch pack and drum reassembled with the new frictions and seals before the valve body and pan go back on.

These units typically come across the bench with harsh or flaring shifts, slipping under load, and torque-converter lockup shudder once the original frictions and seals have hardened and worn.
