Complete overhaul kit for the Mercedes 722.6 five-speed sold as NAG1 in Dodge, Chrysler, Jeep and Jaguar: frictions, steels, seals and filter.
This is the full bench kit for the Mercedes-built 722.6 five-speed automatic, the same unit Chrysler badged NAG1 and sold as the W5A580 and W5A380. It shows up under Dodge Charger, Magnum, Challenger and Durango, Chrysler 300, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Commander, the Sprinter van, and Jaguar S-Type, XJ and XK. If you have the transmission on the bench and split open, this is the parts set that goes back in it.
Contents cover the wear items you replace on every rebuild: the friction plate sets for all clutch packs, matching steel plates, the complete rubber pack of lip seals, sealing rings and O-rings, gaskets, and the transmission filter. The frictions and steels are supplied as full stacked sets so you are not chasing individual plate counts partway through the reassembly.
The 722.6 fails in fairly predictable ways. The B2 and K1 clutch frictions cook and glaze from years of missed fluid changes, the overrun clutch drags, and hardened lip seals let the packs leak apply pressure, which shows up as a flare on the 2-3 shift or a delayed engagement into reverse when cold. Replacing frictions without replacing every seal and ring in the unit is what sends a rebuilt 722.6 back to the bench a few thousand miles later, so the kit is built to do both at once.
Note that this kit is the soft parts and clutch set only. It does not include the conductor plate, valve body, solenoids, torque converter, or the 13-pin connector adapter. Those are diagnosed and ordered separately based on what your unit needs, and the conductor plate in particular is worth testing before you close the case up.
