AW50-40LE 41LE 42LE Transmission Master Rebuild Kit

The AW50-40LE, AW50-41LE and AW50-42LE are Aisin-Warner four-speed automatics used behind fours and sixes in the Volvo 850, S60, S70, S80, V70 and C70, the Suzuki Grand Vitara, XL-7, Vitara and Sidekick, the Chevrolet Tracker, and the Opel/Vauxhall Vectra. This master kit rebuilds one of those units in a single box instead of chasing individual seal and clutch part numbers.

Inside is the full rebuild set: the friction clutch plates, the matching steel plates, and the complete overhaul kit of rubber seals, sealing rings, metal-clad lip seals and pan and case gaskets. The seals and sealing rings are fluorine (FKM) rubber rather than standard nitrile, so they hold up to the 200-plus degree operating temperatures and the hot ATF instead of hardening and weeping again a season after the job.

This goes in during a full teardown rebuild. With the unit on the bench and apart, the old frictions and steels come out, the case, drums and pistons are cleaned and inspected, and the new clutches, steels and seals go in on reassembly. It addresses the high-mileage failures these units are known for: slipping or flared shifts, delayed engagement when warm, a burnt smell in the fluid, and internal leaks that bleed off line pressure.
