Full master overhaul kit for the RE4F04A / JF403E 4-speed automatic in Nissan Altima, Maxima, Murano and Infiniti I30: frictions, steels, seals and gaskets.
Complete master rebuild kit for the RE4F04A (also badged JF403E) four-speed front-wheel-drive automatic, the transaxle Nissan ran behind a long list of 2.0L through 3.3L engines. It covers the Altima 2.4L/2.5L (1993-2006), Maxima 2.0L/3.0L (1992-2002), Murano 2.5L (2002-2007), Quest 3.3L, and Infiniti I30 3.0L (1995-1999), plus the X-Trail, Primera, Serena, Presage and other export models built on the same case. Check the ID tag on the bellhousing and match the pictures before you order, since Nissan used several similar RE4-family units.
This is a full overhaul set, not just a seal job. It includes the friction clutch plates, the matching steel plates, the rubber-bonded pistons and lip seals, the O-rings, the metal-clad axle and pump seals, and the paper pan and case gaskets needed to close the unit back up. The frictions are an asbestos-free formula, and roughly 80 percent of the sealing rings are FKM fluorine rubber with the balance in ACM, so they hold up to ATF heat and the ozone that hardens cheaper seals. The lip seals are NAK.
Pull this kit when the RE4F04A is slipping in a gear, flaring on the shift, burning fluid brown, or leaking at the axle and pump. Soak the new frictions in clean ATF before assembly, set your clutch clearances as you stack each drum, and replace the filter and cooler-flush the lines at the same time so debris from the old failure does not wipe out the fresh clutches. Reading a factory teardown sequence for the RE4F04A first will save you a second teardown.
