Bearing, seal and brass synchro ring kit for the Ford M5R2 five speed, 1988 and newer F-150 and F-250 with the 33-tooth 5th-reverse synchro.
USA Standard Gear ZMBK248 covers a full bench rebuild of the Ford M5R2, the Mazda-built five speed sold as the M5OD-R2 behind the 4.9L inline six, 5.0L and 5.8L V8 in 1988 and newer F-150 and F-250 trucks and Broncos. The kit is the bearings, seals, small parts and brass synchro rings. It does not include gears, shafts, forks or the case, so a unit with chipped teeth or a cracked case needs hard parts on top of this.
Fitment for this version is the aluminum case and aluminum top cover build with the one-piece bellhousing and no PTO covers, using the 33-tooth 5th and reverse synchro rings and the single-piece 2nd gear synchro ring. Pull your top cover and count the teeth on the 5th gear synchro before ordering. The earlier two-piece 2nd gear synchro and the 36-tooth versions take a different kit, and getting this wrong is the most common reason an M5R2 kit comes back.
The M5R2 usually comes across the bench for the same reasons: a growl in neutral with the clutch out from a worn input or countershaft bearing, grinding on the 2-3 shift from a glazed synchro, popping out of 5th, or gear oil running down the bellhousing from a hardened input shaft seal. All of those are covered by the parts in this box. Plan on pressing off the countershaft bearings, and set the top cover aside so you can inspect the shift forks for wear while the unit is apart.
Ships in the USA Standard Gear box with the bearings and rings sorted. Kit weighs about 6 pounds.
