Bearing and seal overhaul set for the Tremec T56 six-speed in F-body Camaro, Firebird, Trans Am, GTO, and Dodge Viper builds; synchro rings sold separately.
This is the bearing and seal set you reach for when you split a T56 six-speed manual for a full teardown. It covers the 1993-and-newer GM and Dodge T56 units built on the 1386 case casting: the LT1 and LS1 F-body Camaro, Firebird, Z28, SS, and Trans Am, the 2004-2006 Pontiac GTO, and the Dodge Viper and Ram SRT-10. This is the USA Standard Gear kit, cut to the factory bearing sizes so the shafts seat with correct endplay.
Inside are the input, mainshaft, and countershaft bearings with their races plus the front and rear case seals. It uses the single-piece reverse synchro ring layout found on these units. It does not include the brass synchronizer rings, so if you have a grind going into a gear or worn syncros, add a synchro set or step up to the full rebuild kit.
On the bench you press the tired bearings off the input, main, and cluster shafts, drive out the old races, install the new bearings and races, and renew the front bearing retainer seal and the tailhousing seal before you close the case. It kills the bearing growl on deceleration and the whine in third and fourth that a high-mile T56 picks up, and it stops the weep at the front seal after reassembly.
Check the reverse synchro ring style and case casting on your unit before you order to confirm this is the 1386-cast GM/Dodge kit and not the Corvette-specific version. Set endplay and preload per the factory service procedure during reassembly.
