ZF 5HP24 Transmission Master Rebuild Kit, BMW Audi Jaguar

This is the full internal soft-parts and clutch overhaul package for the ZF 5HP24 five-speed automatic transmission, also stamped 5HP-24 and 5HP24A. It is the heavy V8-rated box ZF built for rear-wheel-drive luxury cars, and it turns up behind a wide spread of engines: BMW 540i and 740i/740iL (M60/M62), Audi A6 4.2 and A8 4.2 with the quattro driveline, Jaguar XJ8 and XK8, Land Rover Range Rover, and the VW Passat W8. If your unit carries a 5HP24 or 5HP24A tag on the case, this kit is cut for it.

The box bundles the parts that always get replaced on a teardown: the full overhaul gasket and seal set, oil seals, O-rings, sealing rings, thrust washers, and the friction plate kit. The soft parts are chosen to live in a transmission that runs hot behind a big engine - the oil seals resist deformation and leak-down, the rubber rings stay elastic instead of going hard, and the friction plates use an asbestos-free lining with a stable friction coefficient so the clutch packs apply clean instead of slipping.

This is the kit you open when a high-mileage 5HP24 starts slipping in a gear, flaring or banging on the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts, shuddering on torque-converter lockup, or dropping into limp mode. On the bench you strip the unit, wash the case and every drum, replace all the frictions and the complete seal set, set clutch-pack clearance to spec, and reseal with the new gaskets. Reused seals and glazed frictions are what put a fresh rebuild right back on the bench, so everything that wears goes in new.

Note this is the internal rebuild kit - it does not include the torque converter, valve-body solenoids, or hard parts like drums and shafts. Confirm your case tag reads 5HP24 or 5HP24A before ordering, since ZF also built the smaller 5HP18, 5HP19, and 5HP30 that use different plate stacks.
