There are 200+ products listed as "4L60E rebuild kit" on Amazon. Most are repackaged generic friction stacks from the same Taiwanese factory. Three actually move the needle when you're trying to put a rebuilt unit on a customer's truck and have it last. Here's what shop owners are buying right now and why.

4L60E Rebuild Tool Kit (1993-2008) — 7-Piece Specialty Set
$149
Buy this first. Pays back on rebuild #2.
Specialty tools - the kind you can't fake with a flat-blade screwdriver. Lip seal protector cone (no more torn input seals), pump bushing puller/installer, servo cover compressor, sun shell holder, reverse drum tool, 2-4 band servo pin gauge, direct clutch hub bushing driver. A rebuild without these tools takes 2x the time and you'll tear a seal at least once.

4L60E Master Solenoid Kit — 7-Piece
Browse
Add this if you're fighting shift codes or TCC slip.
The 7 solenoids that fail on 4L60Es: shift solenoid 1-2, shift solenoid 2-3, TCC PWM, EPC pressure control, 3-2 downshift, plus the two pressure switches. Replace all 7 during the rebuild — they fail in pairs anyway, and warranty comebacks for "missed solenoid" are the worst.

For a clean rebuild, the math is: tool kit ($149) + gasket/seal pack + solenoid pack = under $400 in kits, then add the actual parts you replace (clutches, drum, planet) as needed. Versus the $1,800+ you charge customer for the job. Margin works.
