What it does

Activates the 2-3 shift valve to engage third gear. PCM-controlled during planetary gear set transition.

Fitment

1993-2008 GM trucks, SUVs, and cars with 4L60E or 4L65E.

Common failure symptoms

P0758, P0978, no 2-3 shift, stuck in second, harsh 2-3 engagement

Electrical specs

Resistance: 20-24 ohms at room temperature (70°F).
Voltage: 12V switched ground.

Run a resistance check before condemning the solenoid. Bad wiring, corroded harness pins, or a failing PCM driver can cause the same symptoms as a bad solenoid. Eliminate cheap causes first.

Replacement procedure

Drop pan and filter
The 2-3 solenoid sits next to the 1-2 on the valve body
Disconnect harness clip
Remove 8mm bolt and pull straight out
Lubricate O-ring with fresh ATF
Torque to 8 ft-lbs
Replace it as a PAIR with the 1-2 if you are already in there
