- 1Drain transmission fluid (10-12 quarts Dexron VI). Park truck level, transmission warm. Pull the pan bolts in a cross pattern.
- 2Remove the transmission pan. Discard the old gasket - use a new molded rubber pan gasket (PN 8685521) on reassembly.
- 3Pull the transmission filter (PN PF2129). Replace with new filter on reassembly.
- 4Locate the solenoid pack on the valve body. SS-1 (1-2) is forward; SS-2 (2-3) is aft. Both are 3-pin connectors.
- 5Unplug both solenoid connectors. Remove the retaining clips (small e-clips - have a magnetic pickup ready).
- 6Pull each solenoid straight out. Inspect bores for damage. If bores are scored, valve body needs separate attention - consider full master solenoid kit.
- 7Lubricate new solenoid o-rings with assembly lube or fresh ATF.
- 8Install new SS-1 and SS-2 solenoids. Reinstall e-clips. Plug connectors. Verify they click in fully.
- 9Install new filter. Install pan with new gasket. Torque pan bolts to 8 ft-lbs in cross pattern.
- 10Refill with Dexron VI (start with 5-6 quarts, then add as needed after engine running). Check level hot, in park, engine running.
- 11Clear codes. Test drive. Verify clean 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts.
